Description
50 x 70 cm Print on 250 gm art paper, signed & numbered edition.”Laura” is a sugar sculpture from 2011 standing over 100 cm in height. 3D scan technology has been at the heart of my practice for the last 13 years translating human beings into sugar sculptures. After the scan, the data is 3D printed and then moulded with silicon to produce a negative from to pour 30 kg of sugar to be then preserved by painstaking techniques to protect them from the elements.
Conceptually these works come from the Buddhist principle of attachment. If you’ve ever tried meditation you’ll know that thoughts are sticky. Our thoughts attach us to things in this world and we suffer through this process. Sugar as a metaphor works because of its attractive look drawing you in, its sticky nature and pure form of energy. I made these works for people to see themselves and others in a state of objectification through their own desires.
